We are pleased to announce that PerSystLab researchers Nurdan Canbaz Horozlu and Tacha Serif have published their latest research paper, “A Multidimensional Decision-Support Framework for Software Quality Assessment in Agile Projects”, in the MDPI journal Information.
Software quality assessment in agile development is often fragmented, with code quality, development processes, and team performance evaluated independently using different tools and metrics. In this work, the authors introduce the Overall Software Quality Index (OSQI), a multidimensional decision-support framework that integrates these complementary perspectives into a single project-level quality assessment model. The framework is grounded in internationally recognized software quality standards and employs a structured methodology to identify, select, and combine the most informative quality indicators.
The proposed framework incorporates machine learning, expert-driven decision-making techniques, and entropy-based weighting to transform heterogeneous software engineering data into a unified and interpretable quality index. To support practical adoption, the authors also developed a software tool that automates data integration, score calculation, visualization, and project comparison. Validation using industrial agile project data demonstrated strong correlations between OSQI scores and key project outcomes, including customer satisfaction and project churn.
The OSQI framework provides organizations with a practical and reproducible approach for assessing software quality across agile projects. By consolidating diverse software engineering metrics into a single decision-support index, the framework enables more informed quality management, project benchmarking, and continuous improvement. This research contributes to the advancement of evidence-based software engineering practices by providing project managers and development teams with a comprehensive framework for monitoring and improving software quality throughout the agile development lifecycle.
